NLC Update (10/02/15)

I've had lots of email enquiries in recent days regarding the ongoing settlement negotiations with North Lanarkshire which is due to hold a full meeting of the Council this Thursday, 12 February 2015.

Now if there were to be a settlement of the Council's outstanding equal pay claims, the details would clearly have to be approved by this full Council meeting on Thursday, presumably following a report from the chief executive.

But this appears to me to be increasingly unlikely because there's no sign of the major issues between the parties being resolved - otherwise the word would be out on the street by now.

Which it's not, of course.

So I would say that at this late stage talks with the Council appear to be foundering in which case all of the cases will be heading back to the Employment Tribunal again and if you ask me, that might be no bad thing.

Because if the Council were really determined to reach a comprehensive agreement, a deal would be done by now.
