Loose Cannon



Scottish Labour leaders must be tearing their hair out over the antics of Gordon Brown. 

 Because no sooner have Johann Lamont and her colleagues submitted Scottish Labour's official response to the Smith Commissions which is looking at the issue of 'home rule', Devo Max for the Scottish Parliament - than Gordon Brown trumps this with own personal submission.

 Now if you ask me, both Gordon Brown and Scottish Labour are being far too timid and their proposals don't go nearly far enough, but Gordon's ego-maniac behaviour is making his party look completely daft.

 Does anyone really care about what the former Labour leader has to say? 

 After all Gordon's a part-time, backbench MP and if he was really serious why does he not put more time and effort into influencing events in the Westminster Parliament (which he rarely attends) or just resign his seat altogether and stand for election to the Scottish Parliament.

 Beats me, but the whole business is farcical from a Scottish Labour point of view as the leadership looks very much as if the dog is wagging the tail.

SNP - Conspiracy of Silence

So here's the issue - two Glasgow MSPs (Nicola Sturgeon and Humza Yousaf) have been asked a reasonable question about their use of public money to employ two SNP councillors who already have full-time, salaried jobs as senior elected members of Glasgow City Council.   But these two public servants (both long-serving ministers) refuse to answer, so what to do next? One regular reader suggests raising the matter on the floor of the Scottish Parliament which is a good idea, but requires an MSP who's prepared to put down a written question for Scottish Ministers to answer. So here's a list of activities which will help shine a light on what has been going on because as Lord Nolan once said apropos driving up standards in public life - 'daylight is the best disinfectant'.
