A pro-Russia fighter holds up a toy found among the debris at the crash site of MH17

I wrote the following 'Dumbass Comment' post yesterday (Friday) before the evidence started piling up about Russia's complicity in the shooting down of the Malaysian Airliner MH17.   

The sight of these pro-Russian separatists in charge of a crash scene is depressing, not least because they are the likely perpetrators of this terrible crime - and as you can see from this photo these 'gangsters' have little thought for the victims, as they hold up for public display the personal possessions of some of the dead passengers.  

Compare this appalling behaviour with the professionalism that followed the in the wake of the Lockerbie bombing in Scotland where Pan Am flight 103 was blown out of the sky in November 1999 - on that occasion everyone rushed to help in any way they could whereas in Donetsk armed thugs are in control on the ground.

 Like any sensible person, I have an open mind about who is responsible for shooting down the Malaysian airliner and the terrible murder of so many innocent lives.

 The finger of suspicion may point to pro-Russian separatists, but who knows for sure at this stage?

 Yet Vladimir Putin seems to have made up his mind already, if this dumb-ass comment from the Russian President is anything to go by: 

"This tragedy would not have happened, if there had been peace on that land, or in any case if military operations in southeastern Ukraine had not been renewed."
"And without doubt the government of the territory on which it happened bears responsibility for this frightening tragedy."  
Now this is like saying that Russia was responsible for the terrible acts of terrorism committed by Chechen separatists - or that America was responsible for the killers who flew two passenger planes into the Twin Towers on 9/11.

SNP - Conspiracy of Silence

So here's the issue - two Glasgow MSPs (Nicola Sturgeon and Humza Yousaf) have been asked a reasonable question about their use of public money to employ two SNP councillors who already have full-time, salaried jobs as senior elected members of Glasgow City Council.   But these two public servants (both long-serving ministers) refuse to answer, so what to do next? One regular reader suggests raising the matter on the floor of the Scottish Parliament which is a good idea, but requires an MSP who's prepared to put down a written question for Scottish Ministers to answer. So here's a list of activities which will help shine a light on what has been going on because as Lord Nolan once said apropos driving up standards in public life - 'daylight is the best disinfectant'.
